The first rule of social media is that everything changes all the time. What won’t change is the community’s desire to network.
Twitter is a great tool for meeting people with similar interests. But what about people you have very little in common?
The way I see it, if someone chooses to follow me, I’ll follow them back.
Why? Many reasons:
First – they may have a lot to offer and the only way I’m going to learn that is to follow them for a while.
Second, they may help extend the reach of my message by retweeting my tweets and suggesting that their followers follow me as well.
Third, you need to see where the relationship will lead. I’ve been asked to write articles and have received LinkedIn invites, all from meeting people on Twitter.
Keep an open mind with your followers. Hey, you never know!
Engage, Enlighten, Encourage and especially…just be yourself! Social media is a community effort; everyone is an asset.
